As part of our constantly expanding virtual world, it is no surprise that you can now have an avatar online. Some people may say that it is a way that they can actually express themselves, I would beg to differ. Maybe I would be interested in having avatar, it could be fun, but I honestly don't think it is necessary in order to express yourself. In this article multiple people spoke about how by having this virtual self or avatar they could buy nice things and live a life of luxury without spending a fortune. This is true, but some of these websites actually require you to pay a fee so that then they can purchase the virtual items. I don't think I would necessarily pay real money for virtual possessions. I mean there not real. No matter how technologically involved a person is, those items are not real. So I don't think I can really see myself paying money for items that only my virtual avatar can use. Materialism is directly translated into this non-material cyberspace because they have there own brands of luxury items that you can purchase. The people who use this site seem to feel as though if they can't buy the items for real in these tough economic times, they can just buy them for their avatar. Although the items aren't real they still go about their materialistic ways, just not for themselves. Personally I don't think I would put time, money, and effort into making an avatar but I think that it is an interesting concept that has been created. Maybe one day we will all have avatars and be living in a completely virtual world.
